2025 REPORTS

LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 1st FEBRUARY
LOCH INSCH FISHERY
SATURDAY 22nd FEBRUARY
This rescheduled outing (postponed due to adverse weather conditions - ice and high wind) got the new year off to a good start - albeit a cold and breezy one! However the 4 anglers all managed to catch fish and finished the day with 25 fish for an estimated total of 50lb. Top angler, with 10 fish, was Steve Williams.
Not a lot to report from the first of four visits to Loch Insch this year. It was sunny and windy and very few fish! Along with John Steve A, at his first outing of the year were the only anglers to catch fish...one each! Surely it can only get better.

LOCHTER FISHERY - SATURDAY 15th MARCH
Another sunny days fishing with all 4 anglers managing to catch fish..for a change! T he days total was 17 fish for an estimated weight of 34lb. Top angler, with 7 fish, was Steve W.

MONIKIE LOCH
SUNDAY 6th APRIL
MONIKIE LOCH
SATURDAY 26th APRIL
The first of this years 4 boat outings was here at Monikie. The 4 anglers were all hoping for better catches than last year and although they were, it was still pretty disappointing. 5 fish for a measly 6lb 1oz, with us losing more fish than we landed. Top angler, with 3 fish, was Steve W but the sweeper winner with the heaviest fish (a massive 1lb 12oz) was Sandy. Surely things can only get better!
After the last visit here we felt that things could only get better, and they did...just! The quality of the fish caught were better, averaging 2lb 12oz. Top angler, with 3 fish (6lb 9oz) was Steve A, however the sweeper winner for the heaviest fish, at 3lb 2oz, was Graeme. At the end of the day the 4 anglers total was 8 fish for 17lb 3oz.

RESCOBIE LOCH
SATURDAY 10th MAY
RESCOBIE LOCH
TUESDAY 27th MAY
A great days fishing at Rescobie. On a warm, sunny and breezy day the 5 anglers kept a total of 11 fish (and returned another 3) for 34lb 10oz. No blanks and the top angler on the day, with 5 fish, was Steve W. The sweeper for the heaviest fish weighed in, went to Sandy with a 4lb 8oz rainbow. However Steve A returned a fish estimated at 6lb and Steve W one at 10lb. Roll on the next visit!
Not quite as good as our last visit but, on another sunny and windy day, the 5 anglers got in some more practice before the annual trip to South Uist. The catch for the day was 6 fish kept (14lb 12oz) and another 3 returned for a total of 20lb 12oz. With 6 fish, Steve A was the top angler and he also took the sweeper for the heaviest fish. A 3lb rainbow trout.

FISHING TRIP TO SOUTH UIST 15 - 22 JUNE
For the fifteenth time since 2010, six anglers (Steve Williams, Steve Argo, Joe Campbell, John Robertson, Graeme Third and Sandy Wilson) fished the machair lochs of South Uist. The accommodation, as usual, was Carraview House. This year saw the best weather conditions for some time with no days lost due to high wind. And there were also more sunny days than rainy days!

Monday, Day 1 - 2 boats on Upper Kildonnan and 1 (Steve A and Steve W) on Hallan - which had to be changed to Bornish due to low water conditions. Graeme and John had one fish each on Upper Kildonnan while Steve W (1lb 12oz) and Steve A also had one each on Bornish. Also, for a change, this year we had a sweeper for the first fish (any fish!) caught. This was won by Steve W with a 6 inch trout caught after 2 minutes on Loch Bornish.

Tuesday, Day 2 - Steve W and Joe were on Stilligarry and despite having lots of offers could only record 1 fish. The other 4 anglers were on Grogarry where the only fish (at 1lb 12oz) fell to Graeme.

Wednesday, Day 3 - 4 anglers on Bornish and Steve W and Sandy on Altabrug (changed from Upper Bornish due to weather conditions). Steve W had 5 and Sandy had 1, whilst on Bornish Joe, John and Graeme had one fish each.

Thursday, Day 4 - Steve A and John were on Stilligarry where Steve caught the only fish. On Altabrug Graeme and Joe each had 3 fish and Steve W and Sandy 1 each.

Friday, Day 5 - The final day saw Graeme and Joe taking on the 'big fish' loch, West Ollay. Although they blanked, Graeme reported losing a 'good fish'. The other 4 anglers all fished Mid Ollay where Steve A caught 2 and Steve W 1.

Numbers were well down this year with only 27 fish caught (47 fish last year). With 9 fish, Steve W was crowned champion and winner of the South Uist Cup for 2025. Graeme was runner-up with 6 fish. No really big fish this year but fish estimated at 1lb 12oz were caught on Bornish (Steve W) and Grogarry (Graeme).
A return visit for 2026 has been arranged for 13-20 June.

LOCH INSCH FISHERY
SATURDAY 5th JULY
Pretty good weather conditions for todays 4 anglers but nobody told the fish. If you don't count the perch, only 6 fish, for an estimated weight of 12lb were caught. As there were 3 anglers with 2 fish each (I won't say who blanked!) it was down to the toss of a coin to decide that Graeme would be the winner of the sweeper.

LOCHTER FISHERY - SATURDAY 2nd AUGUST
It's been two years dince Davie Bruce came fishing but now he's back with a bang! After a fishless morning he caught 6 in the afternoon to finish top angler on the day and winner of the sweeper. All 6 anglers caught fish and the days total was 21 fish for an estimated weight of 42lb.
