2024 REPORTS

LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 27th JANUARY
LOCH INSCH FISHERY
SATURDAY 24th FEBRUARY
5 anglers turned up on a cold and blustery day, keen to blow away the cobwebs, at the first of five outings here this year. Although everyone had a fish or two it was a slow start with only 13 fish caught. Top anglers, with 4 fish each, were Sandy and Graeme however after the toss of a coin, it was Sandy who took the first sweeper of the year.
Another chilly day saw the 5 usual suspects trying to coax a trout or two out from areas of the lochs that were not frozen over. Not even a few words of advice from Joe 'codheid' Campbell helped as numbers were slightly down this time with only 10 fish caught. Top angler today, once again, was Graeme with 5 fish.

ELGIN TROPHY
LOCHTER FISHERY - SATURDAY 16th MARCH
For the 45th (and final time - as its probably run its course) running of the Elgin Trophy competition saw 4 anglers attempt to win/lose the trophy. Conditions were good and everyone caught fish for a days total of 30 fish (28 of which counted). With 12 fish, top angler on the day was Steve W - when the trusty snake finally came good! Or perhaps it was the pep talk given by Joe Campbell who visited to offer support. As no one wants the Elgin Trophy these days and as Joe has won it more than a dozen times it was offered to him. Joe however declined. So unless someone wants a unique door stop it will probably spend the rest of its days up Steve A's loft

MONIKIE LOCH
SATURDAY 6th APRIL
RESCOBIE LOCH
SATURDAY 27nd APRIL
Not a lot to report from this, the first of three visits to this popular boat fishing venue. On the day we were met with windy conditions and with the prospect that things were only going to get worse, it was decided to fish for half a day only. Although Steve A and Graeme did have a fish on for a short time, all five anglers blanked. Surely things can only get better!
5 anglers came along to this second boat outing of the year and were rewarded with one of the best visits we have had here for years. The days total was 13 fish kept, and a further 5 returned, for a weight of 41lb 2oz. And there could even have been another 10 or so if anglers had managed to keep hold of the fish once they had them on! Top angler on the day, with 8 fish for 20lb, was Steve W. Steve also took the sweeper for his 3lb 4oz rainbow.

MONIKIE LOCH
SATURDAY 11th MAY
MONIKIE LOCH
SATURDAY 25th MAY
Second time here this year and the 3 anglers were met with lovely weather conditions. Hot and sunny with light winds...just what they wanted! Still everyone caught fish - a total of 10 for 18lb 8oz. Top angler, with 5 fish, was Graeme but it was Steve W who took the big £3 sweeper for his 2lb 4oz rainbow. However if Graeme had managed to keep hold of the 'monster' he had on it may have been a different story!
The weather conditions looked good, however somebody forgot to tell the fish as the 4 anglers struggled throughout the day! Only 3 fish were actually caught and another 2 lost before reaching the net. The total weight for the day was a mere 6lb 1oz and once again it was Steve W who managed to win the 'big' £4 sweeper for his 2lb 1oz trout. Surely things can only get better in Uist!

FISHING TRIP TO SOUTH UIST 15 - 22 JUNE
For the fourteenth time since 2010, six anglers (Steve Williams, Steve Argo, Joe Campbell, John Robertson, Graeme Third and Sandy Wilson) will be fishing the machair lochs of South Uist. The accommodation, as usual, will be Carraview House. Once again conditions were 'challenging'...windy, very windy and too windy! With a bit of rain thrown in on the final day. But, at least we got some sort of fishing every day, if only from the bank on Friday.

Monday, Day 1 - Two boats on Upper Kildonnan and one on Upper Bornish. Graeme and Sandy had one each on Upper Bornish, whilst Steve W had the only other fish on Upper Kildonnan.

Tuesday, Day 2 - Two boats on Grogarry with Graeme, John, Joe and Steve W all blanking. The other boat, on Stilligarry, saw Sandy record the only fish of the day.

Wednesday, Day 3 - Steve A and Joe had 3 and 4 fish respectively from Upper Bornish whilst on Lower Bornish, the other 4 anglers struggled. Graeme landed the only fish but did however go on to land another 4 from the bank.

Thursday, Day 4 - The two boats on Altabrug today saw the best catches so far with Steve W landing 9 and Steve A 5. John also had 1 fish with Sandy blanking. On Stilligarry the other boat saw Joe catch 2 and Graeme 3 fish. At 2lb 8oz, Graeme also had the best fish of the week.

Friday, Day 5 - As always everyone was hoping for a good end to the week's fish however yet again it turned out to be the worst day of the week! It proved to be too windy to venture out on the boats so the four anglers (Joe and John decided to give the excitement a miss!) tried a spot of bank fishing from East and West Ollay. Everyone had fish (Steve W 6, Graeme 3, Steve A 1 and Sandy 1) so it wasn't too bad an end to the week.

With 16 fish, Steve W was crowned champion and winner of the South Uist Cup for 2024. Graeme was runner-up with 12 fish and also had the best fish of the week, a 2lb 8oz trout on Stilligarry. The total for the week was 47 fish, an improvement on last years 36. A return vist for 2025 has been arranged for 14-21 June. Click here to see details of last year and previous years catches.

LOCH INSCH FISHERY
SATURDAY 6th JULY
Another showery day, but not as bad as predicted. 5 anglers once again braved the elements and were rewarded with 11 fish for an estimated total of 22lb. With 5 fish, Steve W was top angler on the day. Steve also had his first 'double' in a long time and there were also a couple of nice brownies making an appearance!

LOCHTER FISHERY - SATURDAY 3rd AUGUST
Not sure whether it was the warm, sunny conditions or the fact that two of the three lochs were a bit 'manky' but the trout were proving a bit difficult for the 5 anglers to catch today. Well, for most anglers that is! Steve A found the 'hot spot' and stayed there, finishing with 6 fish and top angler. The day's total was a disappointing 10 fish for an estimated total of 20lb.

LOCH INSCH FISHERY
SATURDAY 7th SEPTEMBER
LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 5th OCTOBER
A 'shorts and t shirt day' saw todays 4 anglers struggle to catch fish in challenging conditions...hot, sunny and not a breath of wind! With 4 fish, Sandy finished top angler and the days total was 10 fish for an estimated total of 20lb. After admitting defeat it was an early finish and home for beer and sunbathing!
Although weather conditions were slightly better this time it was still a breezy showery day that greeted the 5 anglers today. Everyone caught fish and at the end of the day 26 trout, for an estimated weight of 52lb, were caught and released Todays champion, with 8 fish, was Graeme who narrowly beat Steve A's 7.

LOCH INSCH FISHERY
SATURDAY 2nd NOVEMBER
LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 7th DECEMBER

Another warm and sunny day...so typical for November. It turned out to be a bit of a game of two halves with most of todays 4 anglers catching 2 or 3 in the morning then nothing in the afternoon. Except Steve A that is, who boosted his 3 fish in the morning to a total of 12! The grand total for the day was 20 fish (18 of which counted) for an estimated weight of 36lb.
Cancelled due to high winds and torrential rain. The possibility of a rescheduled date, for the following weekend, was also abandoned. This time due to most of the lochs being frozen over...better luck next year!
