MONIKIE LOCH
MONDAY 26th APRIL
Cancelled due to Coronavirus.
Finally the season got started and 5 anglers attended this popular boat fishing outing to try and get some points on the leaderboard. On a chilly and sometimes breezy day everyone caught fish and the final total was 9 rainbow trout. Covid restrictions meant that no fish could be weighed in, so the total weight for the day was estimated at 18lb. Top angler on the day was, reigning champion, Graeme Third with 3 fish

RESCOBIE LOCH
MONDAY 10th MAY
MONIKIE LOCH
MONDAY 24th MAY
Another tough day at this boat fishing outing saw the 6 anglers only manage to catch 2 fish for a total weight of 5lb 2oz. Top angler yet again was Graeme Third who's only fish, caught on his third cast, weighed in at 3lb 9oz. The only other fish fell to Steve Williams with about half an hour to go. So a lot of time spent with little or no action for all anglers!
Freezing cold, very windy and showery rain...perfect weather to get the anglers used to what they can expect at Uist in June! Nevertheless still probably the best days fishing here to date with the 6 anglers catching 31 fish for an estimated total of 62lb. Top angler on the day, with 9 fish, was Steve W. Thanks to his boat partner, Steve A, who gave him the 'lucky' fly. And he'll no doubt never let him forget that!

FISHING TRIP TO SOUTH UIST 12 - 19 JUNE
For the eleventh time since 2010, six anglers (Steve Williams, Steve Argo, Joe Campbell, John Robertson, Graeme Third and Sandy Wilson) fished on the machair lochs of South Uist. The accommodation, as usual, was Carraview House.

Monday, Day 1 - Boats on Grogarry, Stilligarry and Altabrug. A windy start to the week meant Steve A and Steve W were unable to boat fish on Grogarry and were also unable to catch any fish from the bank. Graeme and Sandy fared slightly better with Graeme taking 2 fish, from boat and bank on Stilliagarry. Most sheltered loch of all turned out to be Altabrug where John took one trout and Joe the best catch of the week - 12 trout.
Tuesday, Day 2 - Boats on Grogarry, Altabrug and Mill. Another very windy day meant a mixture of bank and boat fishing and saw Graeme and Joe take one fish each on Grogarry. Graeme also lost a fish which, estimated at over 5lb, would have been the best fish ever taken by us during our visits to Uist. Sandy and Steve A, on Altabrug, could not match the catches from the day before and both blanked. As did Steve W and John on Mill who had to call it a day eartly due to conditions.
Wednesday, Day 3 - Another very windy day with boats on Stilligarry, Mid Ollay and Lower Bornish. John had one fish on Stilligarry while his boat partner Steve A blanked. Mid Ollay saw Steve W and Graeme mostly bank fishing with Steve taking 2 fish. Joe and Sandy were unable to get fishing on Lower Bornish and had to resort to bank fishing on East Ollay where Joe managed to catch 3 fish.
Thursday, Day 4 - Boats on East Ollay, Lower Bornish and Upper Bornish. Thankfully the very strong winds had dropped but now we were faced with bright sunshine. On East Ollay, Sandy had 5 fish whilst John blanked. Lower Bornish saw Steve A take 3 fish whilst Graeme blanked. And on Upper Bornish, Steve W and Joe had 3 fish each.
Friday, Day 5 - Boats on West Ollay, Mid Ollay and Upper Bornish. Yet again another day of bright sunshine saw Sandy and Steve W, on West Ollay, struggle, failing to touch a fish and stop early. On Mid Ollay, Steve A had 1 fish and Joe 2. Whilst on Upper Bornish John had 2 fish and Graeme once again blanked.

The final results surprisingly saw Graeme, who usually finishes top angler, finish bottom! Top angler for the week, and winner of the South Uist Cup for 2021 was Joe Campbell with 21 fish. Steve W was runner up with 5 fish. Graeme did however catch the biggest fish of the week, a 2lb 8oz trout on Grogarry. And also lost one potentially twice that size!. The total catch for the week was only 41 fish - probably our worst return since we started coming, but at least everyone had fish despite very challenging conditions!

A return visit for 2022 is arranged for 11-18 June, so hopefully this time we get some decent weather and the fishing catches return to normal.

LOCH INSCH FISHERY
SATURDAY 3rd JULY
First time here this year and the 6 anglers were faced with shorts, t-shirts and sun cream conditions! Still, not to be put off, they went on to catch and release 23 fish (for an estimated total of 46lb) with even more fish lost due to barbless hooks. Not that that bothered Joe Campbell who, under dubious circumstances, was top angler on the day with 7 fish.

ELGIN TROPHY
LOCHTER FISHERY - SATURDAY 7th AUGUST
Despite Steve Argo saying he didn't want to win this trophy, his practice day at Lochter paid off and for the fifth time he got his name on the trophy (or he will do when he pays £10 to get it engraved!). I do seem to remember that he put in some practice before last years competion as well...not that he wanted to win it of course! Hot and humid weather conditions on the day made for a difficult days fishing, however the 5 anglers (all of whom were using barbless hooks - since Joe Campbell couldn't make it!) still managed to catch and release 20 fish for an estimated total weight of 40lb. Also sadly missing was Club Champion Graeme Third who was on a golfing holiday and sampling the delights that Islay has to offer!. For the record, Davie Bruce had a narrow escape and finished runner-up with 6 fish.

DISTRICT SEA ANGLING COMP (BOB HARPER CUP)
ARBROATH - SATURDAY 28th AUGUST
For the second year, cancelled due to Coronavirus.

LOCH INSCH FISHERY
SATURDAY 11th SEPTEMBER
LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 9th OCTOBER
With the absence (under his wife's orders) of invalid Steve Argo, it was a chance for the other anglers to try and catch up with him on the leaderboard. However on a damp day at Loch Insch the fish had other ideas and proved difficult to catch. The 5 anglers could only manage to catch and return 11 fish for an estimated total of 22lb. Top angler, with 5 fish, was Joe Campbell - taking part for only the second time this year.
I think the threat rain kept the fairweather anglers away (or some were perhaps staying at home pulling a muscle!) as only 4 made it today - even Steve 'invalid' Argo was there! Everyone caught fish and the total for the day was 32 fish for an estimated weight of 64lb. With 11 fish (10 of which counted), Graeme Third was the top angler. Graeme also had the heaviest fish of the day. Click here to see a couple of pics.

LOCH INSCH FISHERY
SATURDAY 6th NOVEMBER
LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 4th DECEMBER
Only 4 anglers this time on a breezy showery day at Loch Insch. Well there should have been 5 but a 'senior moment' saw John Robertson decide to fish, and blank, at Lochter instead!. Which was a pity as he missed a good day with everyone catching fish - and I'm sure, had he even caught fish, we would have let him count them towards his total. 32 fish (31 of which count) were caught and released for an estimated total of 62lb. Top angler on the day was Graeme Third, who yet again managed to catch a big fish.
Only 3 anglers decided to brave the cold, wet and windy conditions for the final outing of the season. And although everyone abandoned the fishing early there was still 8 fish caught and released for an estimated total of 16lb. Top anglers on the day were Steve W and Graeme Third who both caught 4 fish. However Graeme's catch was just what he required to move ahead of Steve Argo to top the leaderboard and be crowned Club Champion for 2021.
