2020 REPORTS

LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 18th JANUARY
LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 8th FEBRUARY
The 2020 season kicked off with a return visit to the ever popular Lochter Fishery. 4 hardy anglers braved the bitterly cold conditions and after a slow start, cups of coffee, and some words of advice from visitor Joe Campbell, things picked up and everyone caught fish. Top angler was reigning champion Steve Argo with his bag limit of 10 fish, and the total for the day was 18 fish for an estimated weight of 38lb.
A cold and very windy day at Lochter saw the 5 anglers struggle to catch and return a total of 12 trout for an estimated weight of 24lb. It was fitting that 'Birthday Boy' Sandy Wilson finished top angler on the day taking the sweeper for his 6 trout. With conditions worsening in the afternoon, and the trout proving even more uncooperative, an early finish was much appreciated!

ELGIN TROPHY
LOCH INSCH FISHERY - SATURDAY 7th MARCH
The 41st running of the Elgin Trophy competition saw 6 anglers brave the icy cold and breezy conditions at Loch Insch Fishery. However only 5 managed to go the distance as our fairweather angler, Joe Campbell, decided to call it a day before lunchtime to go and thaw out his frozen bits! As the day warmed up, the trout started to play ball and all 5 anglers had a trout or two, finishing the day with a total of 37 fish. With 18 fish, it was Steve Williams who finished top angler to get his name on the trophy for his first time. Which was probably due as he had managed to avoid winning it for the last 30 years or so! Last years winner, Graeme Third, finished runner up with 12 fish. Despite practicing here a couple of days earlier, Steve Argo could only manage one fish as Steve W had found the hotspot and wasn't moving!

FISHING TRIP TO SOUTH UIST 13 - 20 JUNE
For the eleventh year since 2010, six anglers (Steve Williams, Steve Argo, Joe Campbell, John Robertson, Graeme Third and Sandy Wilson) were eagerly looking forward to a weeks fishing on the machair lochs of South Uist. The accommodation, as usual, was to be Carraview House.

However due to the coronavirus outbreak, and restrictions on travel, the trip has been cancelled and rescheduled for next year (12-19 June 2021).

LOCH INSCH FISHERY
MONDAY 6th JULY
LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 1st AUGUST
The first outing back after a relaxation of the COVID19 restrictions was to a busy Loch Insch Fishery. It was a good turnout but the six anglers struggled to catch fish, finishing the day with only 12 trout for an estimated weight of 24lb.Top angler, and sweeper winner, was Graeme Third with 5 fish.
This was the first visit back to Lochter since the lockdown, and revamp of the fishery, and despite good weather conditions the 5 anglers struggled throughout the day to only manage 6 fish between them - with 2 anglers 'blanking'. Top angler this time was Steve Williams with 3 fish.

DISTRICT SEA ANGLING COMP (BOB HARPER CUP)
ARBROATH - SATURDAY 29th AUGUST
Cancelled due to coronavirus.

LOCH INSCH FISHERY
SATURDAY 12th SEPTEMBER
LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 10th OCTOBER
After an absence of almost 15 months, not even the sunny and blustery conditions could put Sandy Buchan off a days fishing. And he showed he had not lost the knack of catching fish. He joined the other 5 anglers who went on the catch and return a total of 20 trout for an estimated weight of 20lb. Joint top anglers, with 5 fish, were Steve Argo and Steve Williams but, on the result of the toss of a coin, it was Steve W who took the sweeper.
Another blustery, showery day saw the 6 anglers slog it out to catch and return 35 fish (34 of which counted) for an estimated total of 68lb - the best day at Lochter this year. Top angler on the day, with 11 fish, was Sandy Wilson who could have had even more if it wasn't for some dodgy quality fly's! Steve A and Graeme also had good catches with 8 and 7 fish respectively. A number of good fish, in the 5lb range, were caught but best of all was an estimated double figure trout for Graeme Third.

LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 7th NOVEMBER
LOCH INSCH FISHERY
SATURDAY 5th DECEMBER
Another good turnout, for the last visit to Lochter this year, saw the 7 anglers catch and release a total of 27 fish for an estimated weight of 54lb. Top anglers on the day, with 8 fish each, were Graeme Third and Steve Williams. However, with the toss of a coin, it was Graeme who took the sweeper. The worthy winner as he could have had more fish had he noticed that for part of the day he was fishing with no hook on his fly...he must have got them from the same place as Sandy Wilson!
Reasonably good conditions for the final outing of the year, but the trout were not so obliging. The 6 anglers could only manage 16 fish for a total estimated weight of 32lb. Most anglers caught fish (sorry John!) but top on the day, with 5 fish each was Graeme and Davie. And, once again, after the toss of a coin it was Graeme who won the sweeper. His catch also ensured that he stayed at the top of the leaderboard, and for the first time, was crowned Champion for 2020 (photo).
