2017 REPORTS

LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 28th JANUARY
LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 25th FEBRUARY
I think everyone would agree that this was the best day's fishing at Lochter, so far. The 4 anglers caught and returned 64 fish, 38 of which counted, to give a total for the day of 76lb. John Robertson caught the first fish of the 2017 season however, with 25 fish, it was Steve Williams who finished top angler on the day and first sweeper winner of 2017. John also had another couple of notable fish (see photo), one of which was an early brown trout. Steve Argo was runner up with 19 fish and after a slow start in the morning (with no fish) Sandy Wilson finished strongest of all in the afternoon to ensure that everyone had fish.
If we thought that the last outing would be hard to top we were proved correct. Although everyone had fish, today the 4 anglers only managed to catch and return a total of 20 fish (for an estimated weight of 40lb). Breezy conditions made it a bit of a struggle but, with 9 fish, Steve Williams just managed to top Steve Argo's 8 to finish top angler on the day - and another big sweeper win (evey penny helps!). ELGIN TROPHY
LOCHTER FISHERY - SATURDAY 18th MARCH
Sadly John Robertson, going for a hat trick of wins, was unable to compete in this years competition and had to make do with coming along in the morning to hand over the trophy, along with a 'special' prize for the winner, and before 'russian' off to a prior engagement wishing the 5 competitior the best of luck. This years winner (once again) turned out to be Joe Campbell with 15 of the days 51 fish. Click here to see a couple of photos from yet another successful day at Lochter.

MIDMAR FISHERY
SATURDAY 8th APRIL
RESCOBIE LOCH
SATURDAY 22nd APRIL
After a successful start to the season, the first of the three 'proposed' outings to Midmar Fishery proved to be a bit of a disappointment to say the least. Not wanting to mention anything about a jinx but today saw a rare appearance from Graeme Third as the 5 anglers struggled to even see a fish never mind catch one. However, just when it looked like being a totally blank day, Steve Argo and Sandy Wilson finally managed to catch and return one of the elusive trout and, after the toss of a coin, it was Sandy who went away with the days sweeper for the heaviest catch. We will reserve judgement until after receiving guidance from fishing guru, Codheid Campbell, on whether we will be back for the remaining 2 outings this year.....
Another frustrating day, at the first boat fishing outing of the season. The trout just didn't want to play ball and the 4 anglers only managed to catch 3 fish for a total of 7lb 1oz. Top angler on the day, with 2 rainbows for 4lb 14oz, was Steve Argo. Sandy Wilson took the other fish, a 2lb 3oz rainbow. With a further visit planned for a month's time, we can only hope that things improve!

MONIKIE LOCH
SATURDAY 6th MAY
RESCOBIE LOCH
SATURDAY 20th MAY
Sadly only two anglers could make this popular boat fishing outing, but perhaps they knew someting we didn't! Bright sunshine and a cold breezy day resulted in a tricky day's fishing and the fish only made an appearance when the wind dropped and the day warmed up. Only trouble then was the fish were only interested in the hatching flies and not whatever we were throwing at them. Nevertheless there is always a couple of daft ones about and Steve W and Steve A managed to catch a 3lb 2oz rainbow and a 2lb 12oz brownie respectively.
Another tough days fishing at a cold and damp Rescobie Loch (one of these days we'll crack it!) as anglers struggled to keep fish on once they had hooked them. The four anglers could only manage to weigh-in one trout, and champ on the day was Sandy Wilson with a 2lb 8oz rainbow trout. Hopefully next year will be better!

MONIKIE LOCH
SATURDAY 3rd JUNE
LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 1st JULY
A better days fishing this time, at the second visit to this boat fishing venue, saw the 3 anglers catch 9 fish for a total weight of 19lb 9oz. Top angler on the day was Steve Williams with 5 fish for 9lb 7oz however, just when it seemed like he would blank, Steve Argo popped up with the best fish of the day - a 3lb 6oz rainbow trout.
Fourth visit of the year to this rescheduled outing (originally Millbuies) saw the 5 anglers catch and release a total of 20 fish, 19 of which counted giving an estimated weight of 38lb. Everyone caught fish and top angler on the day, with 11, was Steve Williams - the deadly 'buzzer variant' strikes again!

DISTRICT SEA ANGLING COMP (BOB HARPER CUP) - ARBROATH - SATURDAY 12th AUGUST
At the first time of asking, thanks to good weather conditions, this sea angling boat fishing competition (aboard the Altair out of Arbroath) went ahead. No great catches but the 3 anglers, and 3 guests, all caught a cod or two. Total catch for the day was 24 cod (the best of which were about 3-4lb), a dozen or more mackeral, a couple of small ling and a small dab. Champion, and winner of the Bob Harper Cup (wherever it is!) for the third year running, was Graeme Third with 7 cod and 3 mackeral. Click here to see a couple of photos from the day or here to see the results from previous years.

LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 26th AUGUST
LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 9th SEPTEMBER
Fifth visit of the year to this bank fishing venue saw the 6 anglers catch and release a total of 40 fish, 37 of which counted giving an estimated weight of 74lb. Everyone caught fish and top angler on the day, with 13, was Joe Campbell. Click here to see a couple of photos from the day.
The sixth visit to this venue, once again saw all 5 anglers catch and release fish. Although numbers were down somewhat this time a total of 24 fish, with an estimated weight of 48lb, were caught. Despite catching 7 fish in the afternoon, Steve Williams could only finish runner-up and top angler on the day, with 10 fish, was Sandy Wilson.

LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER
LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 14th OCTOBER
Another good days fishing at Lochter saw the 3 anglers catch and release a total of 35 fish, 24 of which counted to give a total of 48lb for the day. Top angler by one fish (narrowly beating Steve Argo's 15) was Steve Williams. Amongst his 16 fish was a rainbow estimated at 8lb and a 2lb brown trout.
Yet again the fish were plentiful at Lochter (a pity that Sandy W got the date wrong!). Once again the 3 anglers managed to catch and release a total of 35 fish, 29 of which counted giving a total of 58lb for the day. A good afternoon saw Steve Williams overtake Steve Argo catching 14 fish to finish top angler winning the big sweeper! Click here for a pic of Joe in action.

LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 28th OCTOBER
LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 18th NOVEMBER
Despite a very windy day at Lochter all 4 anglers managed to catch fish, although numbers were slightly down on previous visits. The total for the day was 15 fish, for an estimated weight of 30lb, with Graeme Third finishing top angler (7 fish). As Steve A was busy sunning himself in Tenerife he'll have been pleased to see that Steve W failed to catch his limit and could only manage another 5 fish.
Another cold and very windy day at Lochter saw all 4 anglers manage to catch fish. This time the days total was 17 fish for and estimated weight of 34lb. Despite Steve Argo returning a fish etimated at 7-8lb, with 7 fish it was Steve Williams who just managed to finish top angler on the day. Sandy Wilson would have had the most fish had he noticed that (twice) he was fishing with a dodgy fly. Not only was it barbless but hookless as well. Or was he just the ultimate sportsman and hoping that the trout would manage to hold on with their teeth!

LOCHTER FISHERY
SATURDAY 9th DECEMBER
Wintery conditions (minus 2 during the day and minus 7 at night) meant that the fishing season ended with a whimper rather than a bang. As the lochs would most likely have been frozen over and it would not have been a very pleasant day anyway, the final outing was cancelled. Thus allowing everyone to get in a bit of last minute Xmas shopping or make that essential trip to the recycling centre!
