2015 REPORTS

ELGIN TROPHY
LOCHTER FISHERY - SATURDAY 14th MARCH
MIDMAR FISHERY - SATURDAY 28th MARCH
There was a last minute change to the rules, to state that the winer would be the angler catching the most fish rather than the heaviest fish. This meant that John Robertson, with 6 fish, took the trophy this year along with the sweeper and a prize donated by last years winner, Joe Campbell. Joe also gave a prize the the runner-up, Steve Argo (5 fish) which just goes to show that he obviously has too much money now that he has retired. All 7 anglers caught fish and the total for the day was 27 rainbows for an estimated weight of 54lb. Click here for some photos from the day.
A day of 'challenging conditions', saw 4 dedicated anglers pit their wits against the elements, as well as the fish, while the fairweather pensioners stayed at home knitting. Everyone caught fish to give a total of 13 for the day at an estimated weight of 26lb. Despite Sandy Wilson catching the biggest fish of the day, estimated at 5lb, it was Steve Argo who won the sweeper (with the aid of a coin toss - with Steve Williams) for catching 5 fish.

LOCHTER FISHERY - SATURDAY 11th APRIL
RESCOBIE LOCH - SATURDAY 25th APRIL
After being let down once again at Haddo Fishery (no one there and the loch far too weedy to fish), it was off to our standby venue - Lochter. Once again we were not disappointed and everyone caught fish. The total for the day was 29 trout, caught and returned, for an estimated weight of 58lb. Top angler on the day (winning his first sweeper in over a year), after a good afternoon, was Joe Campbell with 8 fish. Joe also probably had the biggest fish, estimated at 5lb. Just goes to show there's no accounting for luck!
This was the first of this years three outings, to this boat fishing venue, and things can only get better. I can't remember the last time it happened but the result at the end of the day was 5 anglers - no fish. Steve Williams had one on but, thanks to the top fly getting caught on the anchor rope, got snapped. Weather conditions were cold and windy and the only high point was that it didn't rain.....and it will be a rollover for the sweeper when we go to Monikie in two weeks time!

MONIKIE LOCH - SATURDAY 9th MAY
RESCOBIE LOCH - SATURDAY 23rd MAY
It must be over 15 years (as I can't readily find the records going back before that) since some of us visited this boat fishing venue, and it proved to be a worthwhile visit. After a tricky start in the morning, due to conditions, it was soon business as usual when a hatch came on and there were fish everywhere. All four anglers went on to catch fish giving a total for the day of 9 rainbows for 16lb 11oz. Top angler on the day and winner of the 'rollover' sweeper was Steve Williams with 4 fish for 6lb 10oz.
Second of three visits, this season, to this boat fishing venue and this time things were slightly better. Each of the 4 anglers at least managed to get a 'bite' however it was only Steve Williams and Sandy Wilson who caught fish. Steve was top angler with 2 fish for 6lb and Sandy had one for 2lb 10oz. Steve W also won the sweeper with the best fish of the day, a 3lb 4oz rainbow. It proved to be a frustrating day for Steve Argo who, despite getting a couple of good takes, just couldn't manage to keep the fish on. Not as easy as it looks this buzzer fishing!

ARBROATH - SATURDAY 6th JUNE
DISTRICT SEA ANGLING COMP (BOB HARPER CUP) - ARBROATH - SATURDAY 22nd AUGUST
First attempt at this sea angling, boat outing and it was business as usual - cancelled due to high winds. Better luck next time in August.....
At the second attempt we finally got out! 3 members (Steve Williams, Steve Argo and Graeme Third) and 3 guests fished in this boat vishing competition aboard the Girl Katherine out of Arbroath. Bit of a lack of fish though, with the total catch for the day being 16 mackerel, 6 cod, 1 ling and 2 small dabs. Winner of the Bob Harper Cup (although Steve A forgot to bring it with him to present) was Graeme Third with 1 cod, 4 mackerel and 1 dab. Oh well better luck next year! Click here to see previous years results.

RESCOBIE LOCH - SATURDAY 15th AUGUST
LOCHTER FISHERY - SATURDAY 5th SEPTEMBER
Third and final visit of the year, to this boat fishing venue, and at least this time each of the four anglers caught fish. The total for the day was 6 rainbows weighing in at 16lb 1oz. Top angler was Steve Argo with 2 fish for 5lb 11oz. At 3lb 4oz, Steve also took the sweeper with the heaviest fish.
Another good day at this bank fishing venue with all 6 anglers catching and returning fish. A total of 30 trout (for an estimated 60lb) were recorded for the day. Despite Davie Bruce catching an estimated double figure trout, Steve Williams was the top angler, and sweeper winner, with 12 fish (narrowly beating Joe Campbell's 9). Even Steve Argo battled against illness to catch 2 fish...

LOCHTER FISHERY - SATURDAY 19th SEPTEMBER
MIDMAR FISHERY - SATURDAY 3rd OCTOBER
Steve Argo was back fighting fit for the fourth, of six visits, to this venue this year. The 7 anglers caught and returned a total of 29 fish, giving an etimated total of 58lb. Once again Davie Bruce had the most memorable fish of the day, a brown trout estimated at 5lb. However it was Steve Williams who took the sweeper for the top catch of 8 fish, narrowly beating Davie's, 7 and Steve A's, 6.
After being the only angler to blank at the previous outing, Sandy Buchan showed that there's 'life in the old dog yet' when his catch of 8 fish was enough to win him his first sweeper since September 2012. Albeit with the help of the toss of a coin as Steve Williams also had 8 fish. Joe Campbell came close with 7 fish and for the record the five anglers caught a total of 30 fish for 60lb.

LOCHTER FISHERY - SATURDAY 17th OCTOBER
MIDMAR FISHERY - SATURDAY 31st OCTOBER
The fifth visit to this venue for 2015 and the best catches so far. The 7 anglers all caught and returned fish (32 rainbows for an estimated weight of 64lb) including a number in the 4-5lb range and another that 'may' have been even bigger (see Joe's photo and selfie). Steve W had the best catch, with 9 fish, just pipping Sandy B to the sweeper. Steve A's practice at the venue a couple of days earlier failed to pay off as he could only manage 3. I thought you said you knew what flys NOT to use!
The third visit of the year saw everyone, once again, catch fish - although Sandy Buchan failed to repeat the performance of his recent outings. Top angler was Steve Williams with 15 fish (10 of which counted, for 20lb) followed by Joe Campbell with 9 (18lb). The maggots, sweetcorn and worms obviously worked well. The total for the day was recorded as 27 fish for 54lb. Click here for another picture of Joe - a bit more PC this time!

LOCHTER FISHERY - SATURDAY 21st NOVEMBER
On a bitterly cold day, 4 hardy anglers braved the elements to attend the final outing of the year. After wondering what had become of our fairweather anglers who were strangely absent, and in between snow showers, a total of 23 fish (46lb approx.) were caught and returned - once the feeling had returned to hands and fingers! At least we didn't have to break the ice. Top angler once again proved to be Steve Williams who, with 10 fish, just managed to pip John Robertsons catch of 8 trout (his best catch of the year) to win a much needed sweeper.
