2013 REPORTS

LOCHTER - SATURDAY 23rd MARCH
ELGIN TROPHY
LOCH INSCH - SUNDAY 7th APRIL
The first outing of the year saw three idiots, sorry anglers, brave the elements to catch and release 16 fish for 32lb. It was definitely a '6 layers day' and only the gale force wind stopped the loch from freezing over. I wonder why we were the only 3 people fishing on the loch that day! Sandy Wilson caught the first fish of the season, and also probably the best fish of the day (at approx. 5lb), but it was Steve Argo who took the sweeper for the most fish of the day - eight. And he didn't even have to fish from his usual beginners platform once.
Click here for a couple of photos from the day.
Another wintery day, but still not bad enough to stop the 6 anglers trying to win the first trophy of the year. There was even a rare appearance by Graeme Third! We later found out that there should have even been one more angler but old age strikes again and Sandy Buchan turned up the previous day. With prizes (kindly donated by last years winner - Joe Campbell) for the heaviest fish, heaviest bag and most fish caught it looked like being an exciting day. Its a pity the fish didn't want to play and, until the last hour, it looked like Steve Argo was going to be the only angler to catch fish. There were 4 fish for the day and Steve A took the Trophy, and sweeper, for the heaviset fish weighing in at 6lb. Steve also had the second heaviest fish, at 4lb, and the total for the day was 15lb 2oz. Click here for some photos from this years competition.

LINTRATHEN LOCH - SATURDAY 20th APRIL
RESCOBIE LOCH - SATURDAY 4th MAY
Another cold and windy day for the first boat fishing outing of the year. Of the four anglers who braved the elements, Steve Williams was the only one to catch a fish - in fact he was the only person to touch a fish. Weighing in at 1lb 12oz his fish was enough to win him his first sweeper of the year. The sight of the osprey also failing to catch fish was enough for Sandy B and John, who packed up and left early.
Click here for a photo of 'the' fish.
Its been a number of years since we were at this boat fishing venue and it hasn't got any easier. Yet again the four anglers had to put up with the cold and windy conditions before two of them finished with 2 fish each. Top angler on the day was Sandy Wilson with 7lb including a 5lb rainbow that he sportingly returned. Steve Williams was the only other angler to catch fish, a couple of three pounders. I'm sure its bound to warm up soon......

T.B.A. - SUNDAY 19th MAY
LOCHTER - SATURDAY 25th MAY
Following the closure of Butterstone Loch it was hoped to find an alternative venue for this date. Unfortunately no replacement venue was arranged.
Second time here this year and it was a complete change in the weather. This time it was hot and sunny but the trout were less willing to be caught. Nevertheless the 5 anglers still managed to catch and release 9 fish for 18lb. The best fish of the day, estimated at 7lb, fell to Sandy Buchan. However there was some doubt about the actual landing of the fish and whether 'a girl' actually had to do it for him! Top angler on the day, with 5 fish, was Davie Bruce who showed Steve Argo how to do it as he could only watch from the 'pensioners platform' - blanking for the third outing in a row. No pressure Steve, just keep thinking about your Troutmasters badge........ Click here for a couple of photos from the day.

DISTRICT SEA ANGLING COMP (BOB HARPER CUP) - ARBROATH - SATURDAY 1st JUNE
ARBROATH - SATURDAY 31st AUGUST
At the first time of asking, the weather was kind to us and the Bob Harper Cup sea angling competition was fished aboard the Mari Dawn at Arbroath. All but one of the 6 anglers landed 'sizeable' fish to give a total catch of 19 cod. Winner of the Cup was Steve Williams with 5 fish followed by Graeme Third with 4. Although failing to catch a 'keeper', Steve Argo managed to take the award for the first person to get stuck on the bottom. Although it was a close thing between him and Graeme as to who lost the most amount of weights! Steve Williams also won the sweeper for the heaviest fish - a 3lb 6oz cod.
Click here for some photos from the day, however once again there were none of the Cup being presented as Steve A left it in the van.
Cancelled.

MIDMAR - SATURDAY 29th JUNE
MIDMAR - SUNDAY 21st JULY
The first of three visits to this catch and release venue and the 5 anglers were met with warm and overcast conditions. 20 trout were caught and released, and at an estimate of 2lb per fish this gave a total weight of 40lb for the day. Everyone caught fish and the top angler on the day was Steve Williams with 8 fish. Click here for some photos from the day.
Second time here this year and, due to some anglers doubts about catching fish in hot and sunny conditions, only attended by 4 anglers. A total of 16 fish were caught and released - the majority by Steve Williams who finished the day with 11 trout for a total of 20lb. The heaviest fish, estimated at 8lb, was caught and released by Steve Argo. Sorry Steve but it still only counts as 2lb!

INSCH - SATURDAY 10th AUGUST
RAEMOIR - SATURDAY 21st SEPTEMBER
The second of three visits to Loch Insch this year and, despite thick weed covering large sections of the lochs, it proved to be better than the last time. Only 4 anglers came along on the day and caught 8 trout, and returned another 2, for a total weight of 22lb 13oz. As it was a nice day, Joe Campbell would have been along had he not had to take the day off to spend some of his overtime money. Heaviest fish (3lb) and bag (4 fish, 9lb 7oz) fell to Steve Argo.
Only the second time we've been here in the last 10 years but for one reason or another, only 3 anglers could attend this time. Conditions were good and everyone caught fish - 6 kept and 5 returned for a total of 23lb 2oz. Steve Argo had the top weight for the day (4 fish, 8lb 1oz) but it was Steve Williams who took the sweeper with the heaviest fish of the day - a 2lb 9oz rainbow trout. No photo however as he is camera shy!

MOSSAT - SATURDAY 5th OCTOBER
MIDMAR - SATURDAY 19th OCTOBER
Not a great turn out and once again only 3 anglers could make this outing. After a little bit of a struggle the trout started to play ball and everyone caught fish. A total of 11 trout (rainbows and blues) were caught and returned for an estimated total weight of 22lb. Top angler and sweeper winner, with 5 fish, was Steve Argo.
Click here for a photo from the day.
Due to a number of reasons, only one hardy angler turned up, Steve Argo - must have been his aftershave. He reported that he had a great start with 3 fish in the first 20 mins then steadily caught throughout the rest of the morning, having 10 by 11.45. After lunch he only fished a further hour bagging another 4. His best fish of the day was about 3lb. The only bad thing he said was the size of the sweeper - £1. He couldn'tt even buy a lottery ticket!

LOCHTER - SATURDAY 2nd NOVEMBER
INSCH - SATURDAY 23rd NOVEMBER
A very cold start to the day, that went downhill in the afternoon when the rain and high wind came. No doubt the reason why only 3 anglers turned up. I think 'weather man' Joe had the right idea by staying at home...or was he just putting in a bit more overtime! Steve Williams had the best bag, catching and returning 6 of the days 10 fish.
Once again, anglers were in short supply for the final outing of the year. Two anglers (Steve Williams and Sandy Wilson - and one of them blanked!), 3 fish, 7lb. The competition somewhat fizzled out when Steve Argo was told he had to babysit the grandkids instead of going fishing. And the fact that Sandy Wilson had 64lb to make up was a bit of a tall order - especially as he was the one who blanked. Oh well there's always next year Steve A.
