2011 REPORTS

LOCHTER - SATURDAY 26th MARCH
ELGIN TROPHY
LOCH INSCH - SATURDAY 9th APRIL
Not a bad turnout for the first outing of the year...a catch and release outing to Lochter Fishery at Oldmeldrum. The 6 anglers who took part caught 40 fish (36 of which counted for the competition) for a total weight of 72lb (2lb average per fish). Top angler on the day was Joe Campbell who caught 14 fish therefore winning the first of this years sweepers. Not only did Joe catch the most fish, he was also jammy enough to land and return the biggest fish of the day. A 12lb 8oz rainbow trout. Other notable fish, at 8lb 8oz and 6lb, fell to Davie Bruce. Click here for a photo of Davie landing one of his smaller fish.
7 anglers came along to this Elgin Trophy Competition held, as usual, at Loch Insch, Colpy. A total of 17 fish were presented at the weigh in with a further 16 returned. Allowing 2lb for every returned fish, the final weight for the day was recorded at 63lb. Steve Argo was the top angler for the day with a total of 10 fish, but it was John Robertson who relegated Ian Simpson into second place (.....next year Beano!) to win the trophy for the second year in a row with the best fish of the day. A 4lb 15oz rainbow trout.

LINTRATHEN LOCH - SUNDAY 24th APRIL
WAULKMILL - SATURDAY 21st MAY
For one reason or another, numbers were slightly down for this venue which meant cancelling a couple of boats. However each of the 4 anglers (and the osprey) caught fish and the total for the day was 16 fish, with a further 8 returned, giving a total recordable weight of 43lb 8oz. Top angler on the day was Steve Williams with 10 fish (19lb 9oz), closely followed by Steve Argo with 8. Although it was a close run thing, Steve also took the sweeper with the best fish of the day a 2lb 1oz rainbow trout. There were also numerous small perch and brown trout caught.

This was the first time back to Waulkmill since it was taken over by Fraserburgh AC. The 5 anglers caught a total of 8 fish for 9lb 11oz and returned a further 11 to give a total club weight for the day of 31lb 11oz. Steve Argo had the heaviest bag of the day (2 fish, 5 returned for 11lb 15oz) while John Robertson took the sweeper with the heaviest fish - a 1lb 10oz rainbow trout. Although the majority of fish were a bit on the small side, some bigger specimens were caught and returned later in the afternoon.

MIDMAR - SATURDAY 28th MAY
BUTTERSTONE LOCH - SATURDAY 25th JUNE
First time here this year and the conditions (sunny and windy) made it a tricky days fishing for the 6 anglers who came a long to this catch and release outing. 14 fish were caught and released giving a total for the day of 28lb. Top angler on the day was Steve Williams with 10 fish, which proved enough to take him back into the lead in this years competition.

Conditions looked good for this popular boat fishing outing however all but one of the 7 anglers struggled to catch trout...pike proved to be slightly easier though. 9 fish were caught (with a further 3 returned) to give a total for the day of 25lb 6oz. Although Joe Campbell was top angler on the day, catching all but 3 of the fish, Davie Bruce took the sweeper with the best fish. Click here for some photos from the day.

LOCH INSCH - SUNDAY 7th AUGUST
LINTRATHEN LOCH - SATURDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER
Not the greatest days fishing that we have had this year due to the torrential rain (all day), lots of weed and a distinct lack of fish. For the 6 anglers who took part, only 5 fish were caught (for 9lb 4oz) and one jammy bugger, sorry top angler, caught 3 of them. Steve Williams had the top weight for the day with 5lb 4oz and heaviest fish (2lb 6oz).
Click here for a photo of the jammy bugger.
Second visit of the year to this boat fishing outing, saw a bit of a poor turnout with only 3 anglers attending. Steve W (4) and Steve A (3) weighed in a total of 7 hard fighting rainbows for 12lb 6oz. John Robertson also caught and returned 3 brown trout.
Steve Argo, with the heaviest fish of the day (at 2lb), took the big £3 sweeper.

DISTRICT SEA ANGLING COMP (BOB HARPER CUP) - ARBROATH - SATURDAY 10th SEPTEMBER

This years competition was cancelled, yet again, due to high wind.

MIDMAR - SATURDAY 24th SEPTEMBER
MOSSAT - SATURDAY 8th OCTOBER
The day started off with 4 hardy anglers who were joined an hour later by a surprise addition...Graeme Third. Then at the end of the day who should also make an appearance (although not fishing) but Joe Campbell. Although a very windy and bright day made the fish hard to catch, the most productive way was to fish into the strong wind which resulted in, sweeper winner, Steve Argo catching 8 and losing a further 2. The total for the day was 21 fish which, being a catch and release competition, equated to 42lb.
Click here for a photo from the day.
Pretty good conditions with a lot of fish showing but they proved to be a bit of a challenge to catch. At the end of the day the 5 anglers all caught fish and finished up with a total of 16 fish. And with this being a catch and release competition that meant a total weight for the day of 32lb. Top catch and winner of the sweeper with 5 fish was Steve Williams.

LOCHTER - SATURDAY 22nd OCTOBER
WAULKMILL - SATURDAY 5th NOVEMBER
A windy day at Lochter Fishery, Oldmeldrum, saw the 6 anglers catch and return 45 trout. Two anglers (Joe Campbell and Steve Argo) exceed their limit of 10 fish, and with all fish counting as 2lb, the total for the day was 76lb. Once again Joe Campbell was the top angler at Lochter, finishing with 15 fish. Since he gets so much overtime these days, and the sweeper money meant absolutely nothing to him, he kindly donated it to a rollover at the next outing. Or perhaps it was because the five pound note ripped in two and he was too tight to buy a roll of sellotape.

The second visit to Waulkmill Fishery this year. This time there were only 4 anglers, but they still managed to catch 6 rainbows, and return a further 3, to record a total weight of 19lb 3oz. Top angler on the day was John Robertson who caught 2 and returned another 2 for 9lb 7oz. John also had the best fish of the day, at 3lb, to win the sweeper (rolled over - thanks to Joe Campbell - from the last outing). Only one idiot blanked.....but I cant remember who that was!

LOCH INSCH - SATURDAY 19th NOVEMBER

The final outing of the year was attended by 5 anglers who all managed to catch fish and finish the day with 14 rainbows (and return a further 21) for 66lb 9oz. Although Joe Campbell had the heaviest bag for the day (as well as the year and also a Club Record) at 21lb 8oz, he was pleased to see Steve Williams win the sweeper for the best fish (3lb rainbow). Steve Argo however did enough to be crowned the Club Champion for the second year running and his fourth time in total.
